Phyllostachys nigra \'Daikokuchiku\' — Giant Black Bamboo
This is a live, established plant — not a bare cutting, not a rhizome-only root division, and not seeds. Your plant has been growing in a 1-gallon container for over two months and currently has 1–3+ stalks (culms), 10–18inches tall, with a developed root system ready to take off once planted. Bamboo grows fast once established — expect new shoots and rapid fill-in during the next growing season.
Daikokuchiku is a rare and striking timber bamboo prized for its large size and distinctive dark culms. As canes mature over time, they develop a rich dark brown to black coloration that contrasts beautifully against the lush green foliage (see photos 2–3 for what mature culm color looks like on this variety — those photos show a fuller, older plant than what ships today, so you know what to expect down the road). New shoots emerge green and darken with age — expect black coloration to develop over a couple of growing seasons, not immediately.

Some cosmetic stress during shipping is normal and expected — a bit of leaf curl, yellowing, or minor leaf drop doesn\'t mean your plant is unhealthy. With a little water and time to adjust, bamboo typically bounces back within a couple of weeks of planting.
If your plant arrives dead, with broken canes, or otherwise clearly beyond recovery, please contact me directly within 48 hours of delivery with a few clear photos of the plant still in its original packaging. I\'ll take care of you with a replacement or a partial refund, whichever makes the most sense for the situation — no need to open a formal case.
