RARE and GORGEOUS 9\" plates by Harry G. Aitken; not signed but unquestionably the work of Aitken. Compare to the NATURE STUDY series and much of Aitken\'s other works both in ceramics and oils.
Six plates are available, each one slightly different from the others. These are all hand painted, transfer printed. Aitken is known for his love of going into the factory and painting his designs. They are in MINT condition -- a term I very rarely use -- these look like they came out of the shop this morning.
Stunning, artistic impressionistic work of a magnolia bloom and branches, all beautifully rendered in Aitken\'s typical palette of soft pastels and bold darks. Pinks, blues, and yellows in graduated hues adorn the bloom while deep greens and blacks dominate the branches and leaves.
Each is backstamped with the black Old Ivory mark, undated, but most likely between 1927 - 1933 according to a well known expert in Syracuse china whom I consulted. Syracuse China is also known as O.P.Co. which stands for Onondaga Pottery Company.
