In 1974, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds transitioned to the T-38 Talon for their aerobatic performances, marking a new era in the team\'s history. The change from the larger F-4 Phantom II to the lightweight, supersonic T-38 allowed for more precise maneuvers and lower operating costs. The T-38\'s sleek profile and agility made it ideal for the Thunderbirds\' tight formations and complex routines. The T-38 served the team until 1982, when it was replaced by the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
Northrop T-38A Talon Designed as a supersonic jet trainer to replace the T-33, the T-38 was based on the F-5 Freedom Fighter airframe and was first flown on March 10th, 1959. The pressurized tandem-seat cockpit offers excellent visibility for both student and instructor and provides a comfortable training environment. Being both lightweight and nimble, the T-38 is used extensively to prepare military pilots for high performance jet aircraft and has earned the nickname \"White Rocket\". The T-38 was famously flown by the USAF Thunderbirds air demonstration squadron during the 1970s and proved popular with NASA who use it as an astronaut trainer and chase-plane.

The Hobby Master 1:72 scale T-38 Talon family recreates the sleek twin-engine supersonic trainer in T-38A, T-38C and AT-38B configurations. The mold captures the narrow tandem-seat cockpit, short wings, side air intakes and twin exhausts that give the Talon its distinctive profile. Display features include canopies that can be configured open or closed, interchangeable extended or retracted landing gear, crew figures and a display stand for an in-flight configuration. The armed AT-38B includes an installable gun pod. Die-cast metal construction is complemented by detailed cockpit interiors, wheel wells, antennas, engine exhausts and finely reproduced surface features.
