The Holy Bible, New International Version, Guideposts edition — complete Old and New Testaments, published by Guideposts, Carmel, New York, by special arrangement with The Zondervan Corporation; copyright 1978 New York International Bible Society, Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 78-69799. The NIV was completed as a full Bible in 1978, and this Guideposts edition is a handsome family-style Bible in a black cover stamped in gold with the Holy Bible, New International Version title and the NIV cross emblem. Guideposts, the inspirational magazine and book publisher, offered special editions of popular translations like this one to its readers, so this printing carries both the Guideposts and Zondervan credits.
The title page reads “The Holy Bible, New International Version, Containing the Old Testament and the New Testament,” with the Guideposts name and its Carmel, New York address, and the copyright page notes that it was printed in the United States of America. A full Bible like this is a good fit for a home library, a church pew or small group, a Bible study, a new reader who wants the readable NIV translation, or a collector of vintage NIV and Guideposts editions. The binding is tight and the text block is solid, and there is no writing or highlighting in the pages.
A note on provenance: inside the front cover there is a former owner's address label with an Ex Libris bookplate. I am not repeating the name here, and you can see the placement in the photos. Included: the one Bible.
