Available is an exceptional Mid-Century Modern Brutalist sculpture of a shorebird (likely a Curlew or Ibis), recently acquired from a long-term Northern California estate collection of 50 years. This is a substantial, gallery-sized statement piece, measuring approximately 18 inches tall and 15 inches wide.
The craftsmanship is far superior to standard mass-produced decor of the era. The bird’s body features a complex "puddled" weld technique that creates a beautiful, thick scaled texture. The wings are constructed from heavy, torch-cut mixed metals—brass and copper—with a deep, natural aged patina.
The sculpture is expertly balanced on a dramatic, gnarly natural wood root base (likely cypress or corkwood), providing a rugged contrast to the industrial metalwork.
