An antique hand knotted palatial sarouk rug with over a million hand tied knots that is 115 years old AND in exceptional condition on its own is VERY difficult to find. This piece features every point just mentioned in addition to an impeccably rare indigo field. Sarouks with blue backgrounds are highly rare and collectible. The deep blue that decorates the field of this rug is derived from indigo flowers which are processed by hand into powerful and lasting vegetable dyes. The rarest element of this rug however remains the never before seen design composition. This piece boasts a completely unique design that has never been documented in a rug originating from Sarouk, most notably the ultra rare medallion decorating the main design panel of the rug. This likely implies that this specific piece was a special commission or gift from an extremely important and powerful person. The condition of the rug is fantastic with no structural issues whatsoever. There are small areas of wear and some small old repairs. This rug features over 1 million hand tied knots, all hand spun lustrous wool and natural vegetable dyes.
