Japanese Bronze Pair of Sheep Statue Lucky Animal Art Sculpture By 喜雄 YoshioMB831
Description
A pair of Japanese bronze sheep figures credited to the maker 喜雄, provisionally romanized as Yoshio, and dating to approximately the Showa period. The set comprises a larger horned sheep and a smaller companion, both modeled standing with their heads raised.
The larger figure has curled horns and a full, rounded body, while the smaller sheep has a softer profile. Textured surfaces suggest thick wool, contrasting with the smoother faces and legs. Their differing sizes create a balanced grouping for display together.
Both figures have a mottled green surface finish with darker recesses and lighter highlights. Surface rubbing and variations in coloration are visible. Please review all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
The sale includes both bronze figures and a wooden storage box bearing brush-written inscriptions and a red seal. The bamboo tea whisk shown for scale is not included.
Artist – 喜雄 (Yoshio, tentative reading)
Detailed biographical information about the maker could not be confirmed. The pronunciation of the name, life dates and workshop affiliation remain unverified.
