【TSURUMATSU — 鶴松】
A one-of-a-kind shirt jacket made from authentic 1990s vintage Japanese kimono silk.
Inspired by the Tanlan (短ラン), a cropped uniform-style jacket associated with Japanese youth fashion and delinquent subculture of the 1980s–90s, UMUI reimagines the silhouette through vintage kimono textiles and contemporary patchwork construction.
The main body is made from a lightweight 1990s vintage silk kimono in a beautiful dusty olive-green ombré, shifting naturally through muted green, khaki, and brown tones.
For the collar and one chest pocket, we used a second vintage kimono featuring delicate woven silk and hand-painted crane and pine motifs. The contrasting fabrics create an unexpected mix of colors and textures while keeping the overall look understated and refined.
The result is a lightweight, cropped shirt jacket that sits somewhere between vintage workwear, Japanese streetwear, and contemporary kimono rework.
Easy to wear open over a T-shirt or buttoned as a shirt, it pairs naturally with vintage denim, wide-leg trousers, or relaxed everyday pieces.

Tsuru — 鶴 / Crane
In Japanese culture, the crane is traditionally associated with longevity, good fortune, and enduring life.
Matsu — 松 / Pine
The pine is a traditional symbol of longevity, resilience, and steadfastness, remaining evergreen throughout the seasons.
Together, 鶴松 (TSURUMATSU) represents enduring beauty and strength — a fitting name for a garment made from vintage textiles given a new life.

The vintage dye may also show subtle color transfer or fading when exposed to water, especially during washing.

These fabrics have lived a previous life and may contain small marks, tiny holes, light stains, subtle discoloration, or carefully repaired areas. These characteristics are not considered flaws — they are part of the beauty, history, and character of vintage textiles.

/GARMENT CARE/
Dry cleaning is recommended to best preserve the vintage silk.
If washing at home, gently hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Do not soak. Avoid tumble drying and direct sunlight. Reshape gently and air dry flat or on a suitable hanger.
When ironing, use a pressing cloth and a low-to-medium temperature suitable for silk.
As with all vintage dyed textiles, slight color fading or natural changes may develop over time.
We personally care for our own UMUI garments in the same way. Rather than pressing every wrinkle flat, we embrace the natural texture and relaxed character that make vintage kimono silk so special.
