This photograph comes from a group of Uelsmann photographs personally given to Professor N White
Jerry Uelsmann was one of the most important innovators in twentieth-century American photography. Long before digital image manipulation, he created extraordinary composite photographs in the traditional darkroom using multiple negatives and enlargers. Human figures, trees, roots, water and dreamlike landscapes recur throughout his work, making this image particularly representative of his surreal photographic vocabulary.
