This antique Johann Haviland china set is a truly beautiful and interesting addition for any collector. With 86 pieces, this set includes serving trays, dinner plates, bowls, cups, and varied pieces (see list below.) The floral-geometric pattern is rounded-edge rectangular in shape (except the bowls and plates) and features a glossy finish on the ivory bone china material and handpainted gold accents. The teacups have a geometric shape to them with a circular top.
The set is from the early 20th century, manufactured in Germany between 1913-1915. It is an original production and has a printed backstamp. It was produced using its era\'s bone china technique.
I cannot find any matches or pieces that even closely resemble this set anywhere on the internet with very much research, so as far as I have concluded, it is a hard to find set. According to the original estate sale seller it was brought over from Austria by a Jewish woman fleeing the Nazis during WW2, and it was her wedding china set gifted to her during first World War times. It has a very unique, interesting, beautiful art deco-nouveau time period pattern.
Set was appraised in 2010 to be worth $750.
Imperfections: There are 2 pieces with cracks as pictured. One teacup is fully broken in half and glued together. There are some pieces missing. It was brought by ship to America across the Atlantic in a chest as the woman and her family were fleeing the war quickly, so my guess is that the missing pieces were broken in transit and as a result discarded.
The design on it is attractive and beautiful as well as historically interesting, art period-wise and its own history, wise. I\'d love to sell it to someone who would appreciate these aspects. It combines its era\'s 2 prominent design styles, the florals and curves/flourishes of Art Nouveau and the geometry of Art Deco.
