\"Examples of American Domestic Architecture\" is a much celebrated primary source in architectural history. It is extensively quoted by Vincent Scully in \"The Shingle Style\" pp. 113-120. Scully hails Stevens\' work as \"of critical importance\" in the evolution of the shingle style architecture \"toward geometric and spatial discipline in design.\"

Included are numerous houses, a gate lodge, four churches, as well as a library, interiors of the Poland Spring Hotel, and several buildings at Colby College. The exquisite illustrations were drawn by Stevens, who was both an accomplished architect and a gifted artist.

Few of this book were ever printed, as the intention of its authors was to promote their architectural practice to an elite and limited audience. Many years later, Vincent Scully made it much better known. Thus this first edition is an extremely scarce book in the marketplace, much prized by aficionados of the Shingle Style.
