This charming composition depicts morning-glories in full bloom, with flowers in shades of blue, purple, pale pink, and delicate blue-and-white patterns. Hokusai beautifully captures the fresh and lively atmosphere of an early summer morning, while the precise drawing and rich color tones demonstrate his exceptional ability to observe and portray the natural world. The leaves are rendered in subtle variations of light and dark green, with finely drawn white veins that give them a remarkably lifelike appearance. A small green frog is cleverly camouflaged among the foliage, adding a delightful sense of movement and natural charm to the composition. The combination of delicate flowers, richly textured leaves, and the hidden frog creates a harmonious and engaging study of nature. This is a high-quality early Showa-period reprint published by the Adachi Institute of Woodcut Prints (Adachi Hanga Kenkyujo), traditionally hand-printed using the authentic multi-block Ukiyo-e woodblock printing method. This particular impression is especially attractive for its exceptionally fine printing quality, beautifully registered colors, rich pigments, and delicate tonal gradations. The varied shades of blue and purple in the morning-glories are beautifully balanced against the deep green foliage, faithfully bringing out the refined beauty of Hokusai\'s original design. The careful carving and traditional printing techniques preserve the intricate details and sophisticated color effects of Hokusai\'s work, making this a particularly attractive example for collectors of Hokusai and Japanese woodblock prints.
