Wegner was highly sought after portrait artist by local society in Staunton, Virginia. This large commemorative portrait of an unknown elderly woman is dated 1927, not long before his death a few years later. It is a late work in the career of a master. It\'s in its original frame which was done by a gallery not far from Wegner\'s private studio in Staunton.
