This classic large Delftware plate was made and signed between 1698 - 1705 by craftsman Jan van der Buergen, also known as Jan Verburg, while working at De Grieksche A (The Greek A) pottery factory in Delft. The pattern is a variation of the early popular peacock's tail or flower arrangement in typical cobalt blue applied under the white tin glaze, finished with a yellow ochre rim.
This antique plate is in remarkably fine condition, with only a few minor chips on the rim and backing flaws. There are also some small irregularities on the surface that appear to have existed at the time the plate was fired. The plate is intended to be hung, and has a small hole for that purpose on the back. Please see the photos, which form part of the description.
The diameter of the plate is 300mm, with a depth of 50mm. It weighs 789 grams.
