Luxury Handmade Wooden Backgammon Set Large 19.7\" 50 cm Ararat & Swirl Rosette For Sale

This handmade backgammon set (nardi) is carved from a single piece of beech wood, with a 50 cm (19.7 in) board featuring an engraved Mount Ararat.

About this model (SKU 11244): Mount Ararat is carved in relief inside a round medallion. Both peaks have pale, natural-wood snow caps, a slender wheat ear stands between them, and a carved swirl rosette sits in the lower right of the medallion. The other 50 cm beech model, 11978, has a broader central wheat ear, no swirl rosette and peaks toned like the rest of the board.

Mount Ararat, Armenia\'s national symbol revered as a \"Holy Mountain\", is engraved on the board. According to the Book of Genesis, Noah\'s ark came to rest here after the flood; its two peaks are Masis (5,165 m) and Sis (3,925 m).

The reverse side is laid out for checkers (draughts). Every set is completely handcrafted, has a varnished finish and is fitted with cast bronze hinges and locks. A distinctive gift for backgammon players, collectors and lovers of fine woodwork.
