Vintage hardcover edition of Brighty of the Grand Canyon, by Marguerite Henry (Rand McNally, 1955; 3rd printing). Illustrated by Wesley Dennis. Henry’s classic story of Brighty, a real-life burro who lived in the Grand Canyon from 1892 to 1922 has been charming readers for over 70 years. The book won the William Allen White Children’s Book Award in 1956 and was adapted into a 1957 film starring Joseph Cotten. Brighty, the main character of the book, was immortalized in a statue that stood in the lodge at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon until 2025, when fire destroyed the lodge and the statue.
This book is in very good condition, with a tight spine and no rips, tears, marks, or other major signs of wear. No dust jacket. Previous owner’s address label on first page.
