SELF-PIERCING INSTALLATION
When used with the included size-specific dies, the grommet cuts through compatible material and attaches to the matching washer in one pressing motion. A separate pre-punched opening is generally not required for compatible materials.
Confirm that the grommet, washer, and installed dies are all the same size.
Install the matching upper and lower dies securely in the TEP-1 press.
Position the grommet in the corresponding die.
Place the washer into the matching opposite die.
Position the material carefully between the grommet and washer.
Operate the handle using firm, controlled pressure.
Inspect the finished installation for alignment and secure attachment.
Test several installations on scrap material before beginning production.
Material thickness, density, number of layers, die adjustment, and applied pressure can affect the finished result.

IMPORTANT MATERIAL LIMITATION
Self-piercing grommets are intended to cut through compatible flexible materials. They may not cut reliably through extremely dense or reinforced materials such as heavy polyester webbing, elastic, thick multi-layer assemblies, or rigid materials.
These applications may require a separately pre-punched opening or specialized industrial equipment. The TEP-1 is not compatible with separate hole-piercing die sets.
Always test the complete installation on scrap material before starting production.
IMPORTANT MACHINE INFORMATION
The TEP-1 accepts 1/4\"-20 UNC threaded upper dies only. It does not accept a smooth-shank upper die unless a compatible alternative configuration is specifically provided.
For improved stability, alignment, leverage, and repeatable production results, secure bench mounting is recommended. Suitable mounting hardware and a stable work surface must be selected according to the installation location.
The TEP-1 is intended for manual and light-production applications. For high-volume or continuous industrial production, a pneumatic, hydraulic, or automatic MICRON® machine may be more appropriate.
