Seller told me that her husband was the artist and that he had been teaching and doing studio sculpting from the 1970s and early 80s before he because a professor. I don't remember their names. I don't think it's signed but it is so heavy that I am certainly not going to turn it over. as stated in the title, it works fantastically as a bench. I didn't keep it outdoors but I used it as an entryway bench for many years. three people can sit on it reasonably for a quick seat or too comfortably. you know for a period of time it's very robust and it's not fragile or at least not overly. the material feels like some sort of poured, not super heavy but the quantity of it and probably the internal structure make it extremely heavy. I'm going to say some sort of like resin. polymer clay it's smooth to the touch. it stays cool like stone and also makes coffee table or accent table as well. The surface shines up nicely as shown in the photos. I only needed the top I have wipe it down nicely and touch up the few little scuffs. I honestly don't feel that it needs much attention at all, but full disclosure. this is one hell of a statement piece though and it needs to go to one hell of a statement room or a statement home and make it statement. I just kind of have more industrial meets nature but not crazy art decor. I'm more vintage shortwave radios with Danish heritage, Nagahide, and Lane Surfboard Coffee Table at the moment. sooooo....Up for sale is a stunning, highly sculptural vintage brutalist piece dating to the late 1970s or early 1980s. This is a true piece of American Studio Craft furniture, hand-created by a local studio artist.
The table features an incredible, heavy biomorphic base with a dripping, melted organic texture reminiscent of tree roots, volcanic rock, or stalagmite formations. It perfectly captures the raw aesthetic of the Mid-Century Brutalist movement. It makes an incredible, dramatic centerpiece in a living room, entryway, or avant-garde interior.
• Design Style: In the style of legendary American sculptor Paul Evans (specifically his iconic welded/dripped resin and steel works) and the organic forms of Wendell Castle.
• Dual Functionality: Exceptionally sturdy structure. It can be utilized beautifully as a sculptural coffee table or as a unique conversational bench that easily seats 2 to 3 people.
• Material/Texture: Features a fluid, cast quality (likely a polymer-reinforced plaster, composite, or resin over a heavy structural core) with a gorgeous, deep textural patina. For its size, it is very heavy and solid.
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition with minor at most and expected wear consistent with age and light use. nothing more than a few light stuffs, Etc which I plan on touching up completely. I just wanted to get this listed and help move it before winter because I do not have storage for it indoors without inconvenience LOL.
