Elegant Testard edition of Molière’s classic comedy, designed with period ornaments and illustrations by Jacques Leman. Printed on fine paper with wide margins and rough-cut (deckle) edges, this large-format issue showcases late-19th-century Parisian bookmaking at its best.

Paris: Émile Testard et Cie, 1889. From the publisher’s stated tirage de luxe of 550 copies (see Justification du tirage): 125 on Japon, 75 on Chine, 150 on vélin à la cuve, and 200 on vergé de Hollande. This copy bears no printed number; as with many surviving examples, the exact stock is not specified on the leaf. Judging by tone, weight, and surface, it is most probably paper quality no. 3 — vélin à la cuve.

Very Good for age. Wrappers lightly toned with minor edge/scuff wear and a faint crease to rear cover. Interior clean and fresh with only occasional spots; several leaves unopened/partly unopened. Complete and sound—please see photos.
