This remarkable fountain pen has never been inked and represents the earliest production of the Parker 61, which was introduced to the public in 1956. The Parker 61 was an innovative addition to Parker's legendary line of writing instruments, and this First Edition example showcases the distinctive design and craftsmanship that made the model so memorable. The Vista Blue barrel is complemented by the stunning Heirloom Rainbow Cap, featuring a beautiful 1/17th 14K Rose & Green Gold Filled finish that gives the pen an unmistakable presence. The lower portion of the cap displays the First Edition badge, a particularly desirable detail for collectors seeking an early Parker 61.
The cap is crafted from 1/17th 14K Gold Filled material on the Rose Gold and 1/17 16K Gold Filled matterial on the Green/Yellow Gold and is hallmarked in two locations along the side of the cap, as shown in the photos. The Parker name is stamped along the lower cap lip. The cap and barrel are both in magnificent condition, with no chips, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs observed. There are no monograms or personalizations on either the cap or barrel, preserving the pen's original, unaltered appearance.
This Parker 61 measures approximately 5 1/2 inches capped and 5 3/4 inches posted, with a weight of .61 ounces. The pen is fitted with its original Medium Nib, which measures approximately .67mm when measured with digital calipers. I have not written with this nib, as I wanted to preserve the fountain pen in its original New Old Stock, Mint Condition for the collector who acquires it.
The Parker 61 utilizes Parker's innovative capillary filling system, which is also in untouched condition and has never been inked. One of the most compelling indicators of this pen's never-inked status can be observed at the end of the capillary filler, which remains white, showing no evidence of ink having ever entered the filling system (see image 10). This is an especially important detail for the collector who values originality and factory-preserved condition.
The combination of the early 1956 First Edition Parker 61, the highly desirable Heirloom Cap with its exquisite Heritage Rainbow finish, the beautiful Vista Blue color, and the untouched New Old Stock condition makes this an exceptionally difficult fountain pen to locate.
