Clip, sheepsfoot, and spey. Discontinued Solingen pocket-knife contract — not a current Dexter-Russell kitchen knife, not an 1800s Massachusetts fixed blade, and not an A.G. Russell Knives piece.

Condition Notes

New in box. Factory wrap. Unused as a cutter. Delrin, shield, bolsters, and etch look clean in the photos. Box has light shelf wear on the corners. Same RU series is often listed as sawcut bone — this example is Delrin. Judge from the pictures.

Description & History

John Russell opened the Green River Works in Massachusetts in 1834. The plain Green River hunting and skinning knives went west with trappers and settlers. “Up to Green River” meant a job done right. That company later became part of what is now Dexter-Russell in Southbridge. Dexter-Russell still owns the Green River Works name and still makes kitchen and butcher knives in the USA.

This knife is a different chapter. In the late 1990s / early 2000s the Russell Green River Works name went on a short line of traditional folders built in Solingen. Collectors treat them as Boker contract work: sawcut handles, arrow-R shield, RUSSELL / SOLINGEN stamps, and the Green River Works etch. Patterns included stockman, trapper, barlow, and congress. They are not common next to Case. They are not current production.

Not A.G. Russell Knives. A.G. Russell of Arkansas is a different company. He sold a lot of Solingen folders and may have cataloged this RU line. He did not own the Green River Works brand.

RU28 is this 3-blade sawcut stockman. Same family as the RU-27 large stockman. Boxed unused examples are the ones people look for.
