This is not just a beautiful mineral specimen; it is a documented piece of American mining history. This incredible 161-gram piece hails directly from the legendary Einstein Mine (Silver Mines, Missouri). It boasts exceptional provenance, originating from the esteemed Byrd collection before being passed down to the Cox collection. Mr. Byrd was a prominent figure at the Einstein Mine during the World War 1 era, famously responsible for repairing the mine's dam and was in charge in some form during that critical period of American industrial history. Charles Cox was a Geologist from The Missouri School of Mines during this time.

​The Specimen: Deep Earth Greisen & Fire

Visually, this specimen is a chaotic, beautiful riot of color and crystallization. The host matrix is a stunning example of green Greisen—a rare, highly altered hydrothermal rock composed of quartz, topaz, fluorite, and sericite mica.

​Shattered throughout the green and white quartz are fiery pockets of red matrix and brilliant, glittering clusters of native Pyrite. The extreme geological forces at play in the St. Francois Mountains are captured perfectly in this dense, complex chunk of vein material.

​The Mystery Inclusion

If you look closely at the extreme macro shots, there is a distinct, curved, metallic "wire-like" inclusion suspended within the quartz. Given the historic nature of the Einstein Mine's silver and tungsten production, this intriguing metallic spring-like formation makes this piece a true anomaly and a fantastic subject for a collector with a jeweler's loupe or microscope. I know what I believe it is because it's been found in pieces there and the historic Koch shaft is literally a half mile from the Einstein on the same strike on the same vein system but you be the judge, either way this Specimen is Beautiful with incredibly vibrant colors.
