It features the iconic, highly detailed embossed crown pattern, including the structural bands, decorative jewels, and central fleur-de-lis motifs.Dimensions:

    • Width:16 inches
    • Base Diameter:6-inch outer diameter (Standard pump fitment)
    Condition Report:
    • Main Glass Body:Excellent structural condition. The milk glass displays a beautiful, bright luster. There are NO hairline cracks, body fractures, breaks, or structural repairs anywhere on the crown body or top finial.
    • The Base/Collar:This globe features the highly desirablethreaded glass screw-neck base. As is entirely standard and expected for an authentic, pump-worn piece of this vintage, there is minor edge chipping/flea-biting confined strictly to the glass thread tracks at the very bottom from historic mounting friction. It remains structurally sound and threads properly.
    • Paint:The globe features wonderful, authentic \"battle-worn\" patina with significant remnants of the original cold-painted red lacquer nestled in the recesses of the fleur-de-lis and lower band. The paint is flaking and weathered naturally from decades of outdoor exposure. It has been left completely untouched and uncleaned to preserve its historical integrity and prove its authenticity to the buyer.
💎 Rarity & Historical ContextWhy This Globe is from the 1920s (The Evidence)Standard Oil produced the molded crown globe in a few distinct design phases. Your globe can be firmly pinpointed to the1920s to very early 1930sdue to one specific engineering feature:the molded glass threads on the collar.
    1. The Screw-Base Era:In the 1920s, gas pump manufacturers used threaded metal receiving rings on top of the pumps. Standard Oil ordered these crowns with thick, heavy glass threads molded right into the base so gas station attendants could literally screw the heavy glass crown onto the pump like a giant lightbulb.
    2. The Shift to Smooth Bases:By the mid-1930s, this method was largely abandoned because the glass threads were prone to binding or breaking when frozen or over-tightened. Standard Oil shifted production to a simpler, unthreaded, smooth 6-inch glass base that clamped down into a metal collar with set-screws. Finding a surviving, unbroken threaded neck places this piece at the early, premium end of the timeline.
Rarity Level: Highly Collectible / DesirableWhile Standard Oil was a massive company that produced thousands of these crowns, surviving examples in solid condition are getting increasingly difficult to find.
    • The Fragility Factor:Because they were made of a single heavy piece of milk glass, thousands of these globes were shattered over the last century by wind storms, rock-throwing vandals, or accidents when gas stations were remodeled or torn down.
    • The \"Untouched\" Premium:What makes your specific globe rare is that it hasnotbeen chemically stripped or reproduction-painted. In the petroliana hobby, finding an un-restored crown that still carries its original weathered red lacquer is considered highly elite, as it perfectly validates its 100-year-old story.
