This original work combines collage and painting techniques. Comic book pages were applied directly to the canvas and covered with a light, translucent pastel-toned layer of paint, allowing the underlying comic imagery and text to remain faintly visible throughout the composition.
The large central image depicts one cowboy striking another and was recreated from a panel in an old Gunsmoke comic book. According to the artist, Gunsmoke has personal significance because it was a television show he watched with his grandfather, and those memories provided the inspiration for this piece.
The artwork features bold black outlines with orange, blue and cream tones layered over the underlying comic-book collage. The speech balloon reads “KEEP OUTA… UNGH!”
Artist signed in red at the lower right and identified “GREG McDONALD” on the reverse stretcher.
