Shipping: I know shipping has gotten pricey. I can't help that. I try to make it as cheap as possible with box size but I have had a couple of recent items damaged. So I will use bigger boxes and double box when possible. It will add more to the shipping but that is the reality now. Thanks.
This is a quite rare ornate antique Japanese Edo period bronze mirror or kagami.
It is very ornate with a turtle in the middle, cranes on the bottom, and Japanese trees and flowers towards the top. The one really great thing about this is that it is signed on the bottom right though I have been unable to translate the signature.
There is a polished surface on back for gazing. Not sure how this was done. It comes with a later but old black lacquer box with stylized butterflies on top, and a newer wood presentation box. The brass easel is NOT included in the sale.
The mirror is quite heavy at 1 lb. 12 oz. It measures 4.75" in diameter and 3/4“ thick. Of course, this was made in the era before glass mirrors were popular so what they would do is make them a bronze and polish them to a mirror finish.
Over time there's been a little bit of a patina on the mirror area and some oxidation in small areas on inside the bronze detail as shown.
One of the nicest bronze Japanese mirrors I have owned. This would be from the Edo period (pre-1868) but it could go back to the late 1700s very easily. Again, the brass easel is not included. Weight is about 3.5 lbs before packing.
Items I sell are not new. They have been used so do not expect mint condition unless otherwise noted. Measurements are approximate and may not be totally exact. Keep this in mind when offerding.
