This beautiful wooden orthodox icon depicts the Holy Venerable Martyr Eudokia (Evdokia / Eudocia) of Heliopolis – a shining witness to God\'s boundless mercy and the power of true repentance.

Saint Eudokia was born a Samaritan in Heliopolis of Phoenicia (modern Baalbek, Lebanon). In her youth, renowned for her extraordinary beauty, she lived a life of sin, selling her body and amassing great wealth from wealthy admirers across many lands. Yet the Lord, in His infinite love, did not abandon her soul to destruction.

One day, by divine providence, the holy monk Germanos (Herman) passed through the area, reading aloud the Holy Scriptures – prophecies of Christ\'s Second Coming and the Last Judgment. These words pierced Eudokia\'s heart like a sword. Overwhelmed with fear and sorrow for her sins, she sought out the monk, learned the truths of the Christian faith, and opened her soul to Christ.

With fervent faith, she was baptized, distributed all her riches to the poor, renounced the world, and entered a monastery where she embraced the ascetic life. For many years she labored in fasting, unceasing prayer, and purification of soul, attaining great spiritual heights. She was later chosen as abbess, guiding her sisters with wisdom and compassion – feeding pilgrims, clothing the needy, and healing the sick through her prayers.

After 56 years of holy monastic struggle, around the year 152 AD (or 160–170 according to some sources), she was slandered as a sorceress for spreading the Christian faith. Without trial, the holy martyr was beheaded, sealing her life with a crown of martyrdom.
