"This warbonnet has been made like the old plains bonnets common among the Sioux, Arapaho, and related tribes. It is more like northern plains tribes because of the colors used. Each feather means an honor the owner has earned. Horse hair means he has taken scalp. The fluffy feathers symbolize the breath of the Great Spirit. Large feather attached to the hat crown identify the owner as a member of the Hawk Clan.
The index card features a handwritten note detailing traditional symbolic meanings of the Four Directions, rosettes, and the use of coins in the old days by "Digata Juyejigisgi (Laughing Eyes)."

"Lodge of the Winds: Small mountains honor the Four Directions and have the colors of the four directions; Red, Yellow, Black & White.
The Center motif is a star and means The Great Spirit. Rosettes each have a coin in the center and symbolize the Center of the Universe because they shine and are 'sun'-colored. In the old days, coins were considered merely decorative as Indian people did not understand that they were valuable for trade. This understanding came later, they just traded for goods at first."
