PAIR OF FRENCH LIMOGES PORCELAIN OYSTER PLATES | HAND-PAINTED RASPBERRY & TURQUOISE | CIRCA 1900–1930
A rare and wonderfully decorative pair of French Limoges porcelain oyster plates, believed to date to the early 20th century, circa 1900–1930.
Marked LIMOGES on the reverse, each plate features six oyster wells surrounding a central sauce well, finished in an uncommon palette of rich raspberry and turquoise with hand-painted oyster motifs, raised shell details, and delicate gilt accents.
Unlike the more commonly encountered cream, green, or naturalistic oyster plates, these examples offer a vibrant color combination that feels remarkably fresh and relevant for today\'s interiors. The saturated raspberry ground paired with soft turquoise wells allows them to complement a surprising range of decorative styles—from English cottage and traditional American interiors to Palm Beach, chinoiserie, and coastal homes.
Photographed alongside Indian Tree, Rose Chintz, and Rose Medallion patterns, these plates demonstrate the versatility that makes exceptional antique porcelain so desirable. Whether displayed on a plate wall, layered into a cabinet collection, or incorporated into a tablescape, they effortlessly bridge English and Asian-inspired decorating traditions.
Sold as a matched pair—an increasingly difficult find, as collectors and decorators are often left searching for a second example to complete a display.
