SUPERB PAIR OF ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY VICTORIAN TUSSIE MUSSIE POSY HOLDERS
A particularly attractive and highly decorative pair of antique Victorian tussie mussie posy holders, dating from the 19th century and possibly of French manufacture.
Both feature beautifully elaborate gilt metal openwork baskets, incorporating finely detailed floral decoration, raised flowerhead motifs, scrolling ornament and contrasting darker decorative panels.
The intricate three-dimensional construction is especially appealing, with richly ornamented metalwork and an elegant, almost architectural design.
Each holder is fitted with a beautifully turned white mother-of-pearl handle.
One retains its finger ring and attached chain, a traditional feature of these fashionable Victorian accessories, allowing the holder to be suspended from the finger.
MEASUREMENTS
Larger holder: approximately 14.5 cm long
Smaller holder: approximately 13.5 cm long
Top apertures: approximately 3.5 cm antique condition overall, displaying wear, tarnishing and areas of discolouration to the metalwork consistent with considerable age.
The mother-of-pearl handles appear generally well preserved.
One holder retains its finger ring and chain; the other does not have the equivalent complete attachment.
Please study the photographs carefully, as these form an important part of the description.
