Impressive matched pair of vintage Jacobean Revival étagères / open bookcases, featuring dramatic hand-turned barley-twist supports and a rich dark brown wood finish.
These exceptionally tall display pieces have a strong architectural presence, standing approximately 89 inches high overall, while their relatively shallow 14-inch depth makes them ideal for displaying books, artwork, ceramics, collectibles, or decorative objects without projecting far into a room.
Each étagère features multiple spacious open shelves supported by substantial spiral-turned columns. The construction is notably solid, extremely heavy, and well executed, utilizing traditional wood joinery with no visible screw construction. The oversized turned elements at the upper section give the pair a particularly distinctive Old World character.
The warm dark finish beautifully highlights the natural wood grain and sculptural turning. Their design is associated with Jacobean, Tudor Revival, English Revival, and Old World interiors and would also work beautifully in an eclectic or maximalist setting.
Both pieces are in very good vintage condition with no damage, retaining attractive character consistent with age. No maker’s marks or labels have been found.
Dimensions — each:
42” W × 14” D × 82” H to the upper shelf
Approximately 89” H overall, including the 7” turned wood detail.
Sold as a matched pair.
A substantial and increasingly difficult-to-find pair with excellent scale—particularly striking positioned on either side of a doorway, fireplace, large window, console, or architectural opening.
