A phenomenal pair of 19th century hand carved and hand painted matching horses on base. Circa 1870-1890, these horses are each carved in the exact proportions, likely made by a father as toys for a child. The original painted surface shows great age, patina, and craquelure. Both have survived in excellent condition, with the original horse hair tails still in tact. A fine example of 19th century American Folk Art.
Provenance: A longtime Pennsylvania collection.
Dimensions: 7 x 7 x 2 3/4 inches.
