Pair of Vintage Kenyan Tea Shipping Chests / Boxes
An unusual and characterful pair of vintage wooden tea shipping chests, originally usedfor transporting tea from Kenya.
Both boxes retain an assortment of original shipping and export markings, giving them awonderful authentic, well-travelled appearance. Markings include “Produce ofKenya,” “High Grown Tea,” “Mokama” and “Avonmouth,” together with variousnumbers, weights and other shipping marks.
Constructed from wood with reinforced edging, the boxes have clearly seen considerable useover the years and retain plenty of knocks, marks, staining, writing andgeneral wear. The internal linings are also worn, torn and marked in places, asshown in the photographs. We have deliberately left them in their originalcondition rather than attempting to restore them, as much of their appeal liesin their history and aged industrial appearance.
A great decorative pair with plenty of possibilities. They could be repurposed as sidetables, bedside tables, storage boxes, display pieces or quirky interioraccessories, and would work particularly well in an industrial, rustic oreclectic interior.
Condition: Vintage used condition with considerable age-related wear throughout. Pleasestudy the photographs carefully as these form an important part of thedescription.
