Binding and pages in very good, clean, condition. Ex Library, but has minimal markings or signs of usage (only a cataloging number on the bottom spine and a couple of pages in the front; a tear mark on the back pastedown from where the check out card was.) Light foxing on some pages. Signs of wear on the corners from age.
An inscription in the front from an early owner, "M. C Frank Palmer, Norfolk VA;" a note from the library across from the title page, noting it was gifted by him.
Ellery Channing was a transcendentalist poet from New England and contemporary of Thoreau. Channing inspired his more famous counterpart to undertake his Walden project and later wrote a biography of him. His best known work today is probably "My Symphony" ("...to let the spiritual, unofferden and unconscious, grow up through the common.")This first edition was printed in a limited run of only several hundred copies.
