Japanese military forces rapidly expanded their operations across Manchuria, and this booklet was published only weeks after those events began.Inside are period photographs showing Japanese military activity, cities and transportation, local people, and scenes connected with the rapidly changing situation in Manchuria. It also includes a contemporary map of the Manchurian situation, making it especially useful as a visual historical reference.What makes this piece particularly interesting is its timing.This is not a later wartime history compiled years afterward. It was produced in 1931, while the Manchurian Incident was still unfolding, and before the establishment of Manchukuo in 1932.In other words, this booklet captures the period immediately before the creation of the Japanese-backed state of Manchukuo, from the perspective of people living through those events at the time.Printed photographic news material of this type was often temporary and heavily handled, so surviving examples are much less common than ordinary books.
