Vintage Cast Iron Stove Top Waffle Wafer Iron | Ring Base | Marked DC 480 - 4 | Appears Unused
A vintage cast iron wafer iron made for a wood or coal cookstove. The round base sets into the stove opening in place of a stove lid, and the hinged iron sits in the base and flips over to cook both sides. Each half has its own long iron handle with a ring end. The rectangular plates have a shallow diamond grid pattern for thin, crisp waffles and wafers.
The base carries a DC logo in a circle. The number 480 - 4 is cast into the base and both halves of the iron, so this is an original matched set. It closely resembles the stove wafer irons used in Belgium for thin butter galettes, though we have not been able to confirm the maker.
The iron appears unused overall. There is an area of surface rust on the cooking grids. Please see photos.
