Up for sale is a complete, highly sought-after 4-volume set of Audels Carpenters and Builders Guide, copyright 1923 (First Edition printing).
This century-old set is a legendary resource for traditional woodworkers, timber framers, and historic home restorers. It features thousands of crisp technical illustrations, diagrams, and formulas covering everything from steel square geometry and roof framing to cabinet making, saw troubleshooting, and architectural millwork.
Condition Details:
Please review all photos carefully to assess the condition of this antique set.
• Interior Pages: Remarkably clean, crisp, and fully legible throughout all four volumes. The pages show beautiful, uniform age-toning but are free of heavy workshop grease, water stains, or ink notes.
• Volumes 1 & 2: Structurally solid with good bindings and intact inner hinges. Normal shelf wear and minor fraying to the top/bottom of the spines.
• Volumes 3 & 4: Show heavier cosmetic and structural wear. Both volumes have a prominent vertical crease down the center of the covers. Crucially, the inner endpaper hinges have split vertically (as pictured), meaning the covers are starting to loosen from the page blocks. They still hold together but require gentle handling.
• Covers/Spines: All spines feature the classic gold-embossed hammer graphic, though the gilt has dulled with age, and the flexible black cloth shows typical fraying along the edges.
This is a fantastic, honest collector's set that functions beautifully as both a historical bookshelf display and a practical bench reference.
