Offered here is an original, unopened 330ml bottle of Harrington’s “SobeRing Thought”, purchased by me in New Zealand in 2002 and kept unopened ever since.
SobeRing Thought was the famous 1% ale created by Harrington’s Brewery for the filming of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, allowing actors to drink convincing dark ale during filming without consuming normal-strength through repeated takes.
This early bottle has fantastic LOTR-themed presentation, including the gold ring-inspired “SobeRing Thought” logo and the wonderfully Kiwi “Harrington’s – Lord of the Beers” wording.
Most notably, the original rear label states:
“Brewed for Lord of the Rings”
“This handcrafted ale is the official brew enjoyed by the actors in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.”
The bottle remains completely unopened, with its original crown cap intact and all front, rear and neck labels present. It has been in my possession since purchasing it in 2002.

SobeRing Thought continued to appear in later years, making this early 2002-purchased example particularly interesting to collectors of Peter Jackson, Tolkien, LOTR and New Zealand film memorabilia.
Please note: This bottle is being sold as a collectible piece of memorabilia, not for consumption. While SobeRing Thought was created for and associated with production of the LOTR trilogy, I am not claiming that this individual bottle was physically used on set.
A wonderfully unusual survivor from the period when Middle-earth took over New Zealand, and something rather different from the usual mass-produced LOTR merchandise.
