Rare Antique 1890s GOLDEN RAYS STORYBOOK (McLoughlin Bros. New York) For Sale

Up for sale is for The Golden Rays Storybook! This is an antique illustrated children’s book published by the McLoughlin Brothers (New York) in the 1890s! The book has cloth-covered boards with gilt decoration and an illustrated front cover. The book is over 200 pages, and each page has a beautiful red floral border. There are wonderful engravings on almost every page, and many are full-page. The book includes approximately 75 children’s stories and poems, with the authors noted in the text (no table of contents). Some authors included are Christine Stephens, Aunti May, Florence Hallowell, Louise Thrush Brooks, and E.S. Tucker. Some illustrators included are CMS, Aldridge, Hirschberg, Bridgeman, and Chapin. This is a large book, measuring about 8¼” x 10¼” x 1” thick.

As shown in the photos, the book is in fair condition with some cover wear and soiling. The book is complete although the front endpapers and frontispiece are detached. There is some writing on the rear endpapers. The book still seems to be solidly bound although the hinges are both cracked. The pages are generally clean with very little creasing and a few small edge tears (the detached pages do have some edge chipping as shown). There may be a few small finger smudges and some foxing or spotting. The pages have darkened with age, mostly near the edges. This rare antique children’s book would make a nice addition to your collection!
