Antique 6.5” All Bisque Doll Glass Sleep Eyes Black Stockings Fancy Shoes
This beautiful 6.5-inch all-bisque doll has a particularly striking face, with large glass sleep eyes, finely painted features, and a dark wig. Her legs are painted with long black stockings and unusually fancy heeled shoes, complete with contrasting trim and tiny blue accents at the toes. Those details give her a wonderful presence for such a small doll.
She has a bisque head, torso, arms, and legs, with jointing at the neck, shoulders, and hips. She comes dressed in a delicate pink crocheted dress and cap with pale trim, along with matching light-colored pantalets. The clothing can be removed, as shown in the photos.
Small all-bisque dolls were made in Germany for the dollhouse and miniature market around the turn of the twentieth century. Based on her style, I would date this example to approximately 1890–1915. I have not attributed her to a particular maker.
Condition: Overall good antique condition. There is a small area of retouch or repair on the back of her right thigh. The paint on the sleep-eye lids is incomplete, so it does not fully cover the eyes when they close. Please examine the photos closely for the condition of the bisque, painted stockings and shoes, wig, and clothing.
