A rare and important work on horology, identified as the plate volume from Claudius Saunier\'s groundbreaking treatise \"Traité d\'Horlogerie Moderne Théorique et Pratique.\" This copy contains 22 large, numbered fold-out plates (Plates I–XXII) and 7 unnumbered plates, all drawn by C. Saunier and engraved by Fournier.
The printer\'s imprint reads \"Imp. Lamoureux, r. Lacépède, 38, Paris\"—an imprint not found in the documented third edition of 1887, strongly suggesting that this is the first or second edition (ca. 1861–1869).The plates cover the theory of escapements (cylindrical, duplex, and free escapements), watchmaking tools, and mechanical diagrams—the complete set of technical illustrations used by European watchmakers for decades.
The volume includes a rare 1909 test document from Ulysse Nardin—official test results from the Hamburg Naval Observatory for small-format marine chronometers for torpedo boats. This insert suggests the book\'s provenance to a professional watchmaker or naval watchmaker.
