SuperbJapanese antique (early 20thC) bronze vase with Hanshan and Shide design and child figures as supporting legs. Signed. 22cm high x 15cm diameter (22cm wide including handles), weight 2kg.
Excellent original condition.
Hanshan and Shide are legendary Tang Dynasty (618–907) Chinese Chan (Zen) Buddhist eccentric monks and poet-philosophers who lived around the Guoqing Temple on Mount Tiantai. They are celebrated in East Asian art and folklore as iconoclastic sages and embodiments of divine harmony.
