Very special vintage rotary dial Bell Telephone with Broncos branding! Likely a gift to a special employee at Mountain States Telephone circa 1977, judging from the \"not for sale\" stickers on the bottom.
I have limited knowledge of phones in general much less this vintage one, but I tried checking it out with my CelltoJack (CTJ) device. It is supposed to link an older or vintage phone with your smart phone using Bluetooth. I\'ve had some success with it on slim lines, but less success with this old girl. (Even CTJ says that can happen with older phones.) However, I did hear a click when I toggled the hang up buttons.
The case was easy to remove, and the insides appear complete and not tampered with or damaged. The handset has had the earpiece replaced. There is some discoloration/paint wear on the cord and the handset rest area (see photo) but the cord insulation is not damaged.
Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph was established in Denver in 1911 as a subsidiary of AT&T and came about through aplan to reorganize and streamline AT&T. It was formed by combining Colorado Telephone, Rocky Mountain Bell, and the Tri-State Company. Per federal mandate, in 1984 it was divested from AT&T and merged with NWB and Pacific Northwest Bell to form US WEST Company. Following that was a series of mergers, divestitures, and acquisitions where only the lawyers got rich, and fast forward to today and the bunny trail ends with CenturyLink. :O
At least the Denver Broncos are still around! What were they up to in 1977? *Coach Red Miller, in his first season as the Broncos\' head coach, was named NFL Coach of the Year. *Quarterback #7 Craig Morton, age 34, was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year. *The Denver defense was known as the Orange Crush, which delighted the makers of the soft drink!
