History — Slava & the Second Moscow Watch Factory
Slava (Слава) was one of the major Soviet watch brands produced by the Second Moscow Watch Factory. Unlike some Soviet factories that concentrated heavily on military or professional watches, Slava became particularly well known for its innovative mechanical movements and distinctive civilian wristwatch designs.
The Caliber 2427 is one of Slava\'s most recognizable automatic movements. Its unusual twin-barrel architecture was designed to provide a useful power reserve while maintaining a relatively compact automatic movement configuration.
Slava watches from this era are increasingly appreciated by collectors for their unusual case shapes, colorful dials, and mechanical designs that are distinctly Soviet rather than simply imitating Western watches.
Dial & Design
The dial is the centerpiece of this example.
It features a deep burgundy-to-brown coloration with subtle tonal variation, contrasting beautifully with the applied silver-tone hour markers and hands. The large rectangular markers give the watch a distinctly 1970s Soviet design language, while the cushion-shaped case reinforces its classic TV-watch aesthetic.
The dial is signed:
SLAVA
AUTOMATIC
27 JEWELS
The day-date aperture at 3 o\'clock displays the day and date simultaneously, adding both practicality and visual interest.
Vintage Dial Character
The dial retains a strong original appearance while showing subtle, honest signs of age. There is attractive overall patina and some localized small areas of finish loss/chipping, particularly toward portions of the dial\'s outer area. These are not hidden or artificially minimized—they are part of the watch\'s vintage character and are visible in the photographs.
Rather than detracting from the watch, the aging gives the burgundy dial the character expected from a genuine Soviet watch that has survived decades of use.
Please review the close-up photographs carefully for the best representation of the dial\'s condition.
