Rare Vintage WWII Pencil Lot: Pre-War Eagle Mikado & Post-War Mirado Sets - Both with Original Handwriting Analysis Inserts!Brand: Eagle Pencil Company
Model: Mikado 174 & Mirado 174
Lead Grade: No. 2
Condition: Vintage / New Old Stock Pencils
Era: Late 1930s – 1940s (World War II Transition Period)Up for sale is an incredible, museum-quality piece of American history: a matching pair of Eagle Pencil Company boxed sets documenting one of the most famous corporate rebrandings in wartime history. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the Eagle Pencil Company immediately retired their flagship "Mikado" line (named after the Japanese Emperor) to avoid public backlash. By December 8, the brand was officially renamed "Mirado"—using the exact same red packaging and font style, but rearranging the letters. This lot includes BOTH eras of this iconic pencil, complete with their exceptionally rare promotional inserts.Set 1:
Pre-War Eagle "Mikado" 174 No. 2 Set
The Box: Original late-1930s red cardboard slide box with the original "MIKADO" branding. Excellent graphic condition with bright colors and minor edge wear.
The Pencils: Includes 8 original, unsharpened, unused pencils cleanly stamped with the silver-foil "MIKADO" name and Eagle logos.
The Insert: Features the rare, original paper insert inviting the buyer to "Have Your Handwriting Analysed" by Louise Rice, America's foremost graphologist. These fragile paper slips were almost always thrown away and are incredibly scarce today.Set 2:
Post-War Rebranded Eagle "Mirado" 174 No. 2 Set
The Box: The immediate post-rebrand red cardboard slide box proudly bearing the new "MIRADO" name while retaining the identical graphic layout.
The Pencils: A near-complete factory set containing 11 original, unsharpened, unused pencils stamped with the "MIRADO" name.
The Insert: Features the original orange-and-red paper "STOP" coupon slide-out insert for a continuing handwriting analysis promotion.Condition Notes:Both sets are in remarkable condition for being roughly 80–90 years old. Pencils are all full-length, unsharpened, and retain their original factory tips and erasers. Ferrules show minimal aging, and the graphics on the boxes remain crisp and vibrant. Boxes show some wear, to include top closure tab removed. Please see photos for exact condition details.Items will be packaged with extreme care to protect the vintage cardboard and paper inserts during transit.#Vintage Pencils, Eagle Mikado, Eagle Mirado, WWII Homefront, Vintage Stationery, Collectible Office, Pre-War Pencil, Louise Rice Graphology, Chemi-Sealed 174, Antique Pencils, Pencil Collector.
