This was a store/workshop that sold pre-stretched canvases and materials for painting and drawing in Alsace-Lorraine. The inscription “Alsace-Lorraine” is typical of the period from approximately 1871 to the 1920s (when the territory alternated between German and French control). The label and the character of the canvas (old ground, traces of sizing, natural aging) point to the first third of the 20th century, most likely the 1900s–1930s.
