What Is a Quartz Phantom?
A phantom is evidence of an earlier stage in the crystal's natural growth. As quartz develops, changes in growth conditions can leave a visible outline of the crystal's former termination. Growth later continues around it, leaving the earlier crystal shape seemingly suspended inside.
These internal growth records make phantom quartz particularly interesting to mineral and crystal collectors.
