Beautiful large Smoky Hawk Quartz crystal from Lake George, Colorado, featuring a sharply defined termination, deep smoky coloration, and distinctive natural growth patterns across its crystal faces. Small patches of contrasting blue-green amazonite near the base add character to this impressive, well-developed crystal.
The Lake George area of Colorado is renowned for producing exceptional smoky quartz and amazonite specimens within the Pikes Peak granite. Smoky quartz develops its characteristic coloration through natural irradiation acting on aluminum-related defects within the quartz crystal structure, while amazonite is a blue-green variety of microcline feldspar. These minerals commonly occur together in pegmatite cavities, making this one of Colorado’s most recognizable mineral associations.
