Fine volume in a Very Good dust jacket. The hardcover is sound, square, clean and unmarked, with bright red boards and a clean text block. A previous bookplate has been partially removed from the front free endpaper, leaving a portion of the illustration and some adhesive residue. The dust jacket shows light rubbing and surface wear and has been secured to the boards with clear tape at the upper and lower edges. Overall an unusually clean copy internally, with the principal condition issues being the taped jacket and partial bookplate.
Hardcover in red boards with black spine and the original pictorial dust jacket featuring the distinctive chrome Christine design to the front and Stephen King posed with a Plymouth to the rear. The rear jacket identifies this as a Book Club Edition. The copyright page notes the 1983 Viking publication and also references the separately issued Donald M. Grant limited first edition of 1,000 numbered and signed copies. The volume retains the substantial format and bold period typography associated with Viking’s early-1980s King hardcovers.
Christine appeared in 1983 during one of the most prolific periods of Stephen King’s career and tells the story of a troubled teenager and a seemingly possessed 1958 Plymouth Fury. John Carpenter’s film adaptation followed the same year, helping make the car one of the most recognizable objects in King’s fiction. This Book Club Edition preserves the familiar Viking-era jacket artwork while providing a distinct contemporary issue of one of King’s best-known early novels.
