Rare and delightful!This unusual double-spouted gravy ladle or sauce ladle by the Whiting Manufacturing Co. is made of sterling silver, silver gilt, and carved bone. It is their design number 2888, and was produced between1866 and 1924 in either Massachusetts or New York. The entire interior of the bowl and the top portion of the bowl\'s exterior have a fine coating of gold, known as gold wash, gilt, silver-gilt, or gilded silver.The curved bone handle is beautifully carved and remains smooth. The bezel that attaches the bone to the handle shaft may be hand-engraved. Since it has been in our care, we have provided the ladle with a cleaning and the ungilded sections with a light polish, using only museum-standard methods and materials. Good antique condition. No chips, cracks, or signs of repair. All the joins, including the join between the bone handle and its bezel, are firmly fixed and do not move. Gold wash has wear both inside and outside the bowl (see photos). Metal surfaces, including gold wash, have wear typical of the piece\'s age and purpose of use, including light scratches and minor depressions (see photos).
