This copy features a 1908 handwritten presentation inscription on the front endpaper from prominent Massachusetts genealogist and Western Union executive Sidney Brooks Gifford (1836–1908) to a Mrs. Geo. [George] White. A dedicated member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Gifford was deeply tied to Cape Cod history; in fact, during the exact same year as this inscription, he purchased and donated the land to establish Brooks Park in Harwich, MA.The book's history continues on the front pastedown with a later inscription dated March 1, 1961 from Allison F. Mosier to Kathleen.
Condition Note:Boards show moderate wear with some light marks and rubbed corners. The cloth on the tail of spine is torn off. Despite the tear, the spine still presents well with the bright gilding. The interior hinges are slightly shaken, and there is a split in the binding between pp. 216 and 217 with the mesh exposed, but still secure and intact. Found some light check marks and few pencil markings inside. Book has a vintage paper scent (not musty).
